MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

Dear Member,

Your CARI membership strengthens your business and our industry by supporting essential advocacy work. Never has this work been more important.

At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, CARI’s President, Tracy Shaw ([email protected]) acted quickly and decisively, lobbying the federal and provincial governments to have the commercial recycling industry deemed an essential service. Once successful, Tracy and the CARI staff got to work sending out frequent bulletins to help keep members well informed. These messages were a valuable resource and they were the beginning of a boost in communications and social media initiatives.

Aside from pandemic advocacy efforts, Tracy lobbied tirelessly this year; she consulted with various provincial governments and members regarding new and proposed legislations, prepared submissions to the federal government and worked closely with Natural Resources Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, and Global Affairs on a variety of issues. This advocacy promotes our industry and makes it easier for us to do business.

You should have received your 2021 membership dues invoice by now. We value your membership, and we recognize that these are difficult times, which is why we are holding the CARI membership rates the same this year.

Despite the challenging year, CARI has welcomed a number of new members in the recent months, some of which found out about the Association through our increasing online presence.

Ensure you are taking full advantage of CARI’s communications by subscribing to our email newsletters and providing your employees with access to our online directory, which contains up-to-date contact info for all our members. We’re looking forward to CARI’s Annual Convention in the coming months, from June 9-11 in Kelowna, British Columbia. However, the safety of our attendees is our top priority and we will continue to look into virtual alternatives, should the need arise.
